Sacred Heart students break records

Four records were broken by Sacred Heart Athletes at East Central Districts over the last two days.

Leading the way for SHHS athletesÌýwas grade 9 rookieÌýAlex MushanskiÌýwho broke a 49 year old record in the Midget Boys 400m race.Ìý This record was a long standing oneÌýfrom 1970.Ìý The old time was 54.60 and the new time was 53. 9 seconds.Ìý Alex also won the Midget Boys Aggregate Award for top athlete in the midget boys category.

Sacred Heart had not only one, butÌýtwo records setÌýon Tuesday night.Ìý The second one was from National Track Contender Dami Ogunbiyi in the 100m sprint.Ìý Dami broke SHHS alumnus' Preston Liebrecht's record of 10.78 in 2012 with a new personal best time for Dami in a blistering pace ofÌýÌý10.68. Ogunbiyi won the Senior Boys Aggregate Award for top athlete in the Senior Boys category.ÌýÌý

The thirdÌý Sacred Heart record came on WednesdayÌýfrom grade 10 girl,ÌýKasey McCombs.Ìý Kasey beat her own record from 2018 in the midget girls 80m hurdles.Ìý The old record was 13.32 and today Kasey ran a 13.02.Ìý This was especially notable as the first race didn't have a final time so Kasey had to re-run this race a second time only a few minutes after the first one.Ìý Kasey was the winner of the Midget Girls Aggregate award.Ìý The midget girls category was notable for SHHS as the runner up was Jemimah Adefolarin from SHHSÌýand the third place finisher was Belen Reed, also from SHHS.

Sacred Heart wasn't finished yet.Ìý They completed the meet with a fourth record!Ìý Camryn Danchilla broke the Junior Girls long jump record with a jump of 5 metres 27cm to break the record from 2012.Ìý Camryn won the Junior Girls Aggregate award to give Sacred Heart four of the six high school aggregate awards!

Sacred Heart is excited to be sending 17 athletes to compete atÌýProvincial Track and Field in Moose Jaw on June 7 and 8, 2019.
