The Sacred Heart Saints travelled to Esterhazy Friday night with the hopes of picking up their first win of the 2015 season, however that was not to be as the Saints were trumped by the host Esterhazy Warriors 45-12 in Esterhazy鈥檚 annual Friday Night Lights game.
The Saints brought just 15 players to the game, three of which were Jr. Saint call-ups.
Starting quarterback Austin Walkington scored Sacred Heart鈥檚 lone touchdown of the first half, rushing the ball through the heart of the Esterhazy defence for a six point score, but unfortunately the Saints couldn鈥檛 find the end zone for the rest of the half, while the Warriors managed to find pay dirt our times to take a 24-6 lead into half-time. 鈥淲e were where we wanted to be at half-time,鈥 SHHS head coach Trent Senger told Yorkton This Week following the game. 鈥淲e wanted to be close enough so that we could come back in the second half, and that鈥檚 where we were.
鈥淯nfortunately we just couldn鈥檛 get the touchdowns we needed and by the end of the third quarter you could see our guys were getting tired.鈥
That fatigue led to a couple more Esterhazy scores, while the Saints found the end zone just once more as Walkington picked up his second major score of the game, falling on a Saints fumble in the end zone for six more Sacred Heart points.
The next action for the Sacred Heart Saints senior football team will be tomorrow (Thursday) when they host Broadview. Kickoff is set for 4:00p.m. at Sacred Heart. The winner of that game will move on to the 2015 Nine-man 3A Provincial playoffs to face Warman.
