The senior boys’ volleyball team travelled to Estevan on October 30-31.
The tournament consisted of a seven-team round robin format.
On Friday the team headed off taking only nine out of 14 players. The team was short-handed mainly due to the Saints soccer team who were competing at provincials.
Although the team was missing players, it gave the grade 10 players the opportunity to see lots of the court. In the first match the team lost to Melville. In the second match the team split sets with Carnduff, but won in overall points.
In the third match the team lost to Oxbow 21-25, 16-25. On Saturday the team lost to Estevan and Weyburn. Then the Saints played the YRHS.
Sacred came up just short in the first set losing 23-25, but then came back to win the second set 25-21. “We knew we would struggle at this tournament being down so many players, but it is still a great chance for skill development for some of the younger players” said Saints coach Curtis Moen. “Grade 10 player Grady Hawkins showed some big improvements throughout the tournament as he put down some big hits in our final match against the Regional and Jacob Baker’s passing really improved as well in the back row to help out the team.
“Overall I was most impressed with the improvement shown by Noah Clarke as he did an excellent job blocking for the team.”
Next game action for the Saints is on November 6-7 as they will compete at the YRHS tournament. They will then be hosting Regional Playoffs on November 20-21.
