The Sacred Heart Saints senior girls’ basketball team had their fair share of struggles this past weekend at the 2015 Senior Lady Raiders Invitational Basketball Tournament at the YRHS where the Lady Saints won just one game and finished with a 1-2 record.

The Lady Saints kicked off their tournament with a 3:00p.m. game against the host YRHS Lady Raiders in front of a raucous and partisan YRHS crowd.

The crowd may have been somewhat responsible for the early woes the Lady Saints suffered in the game, however they weren’t responsible for the lack of offensive output in the second half in a 59-26 loss.

The loss dropped the Lady Saints to the ‘B’ side where they met the Kamsack Spartans, who had previously lost to Regina’s Johnson Wildcats.

The offensive issues from Game One continued well into the third quarter of Game Two for the Lady Saints as the Spartans built up a 42-12 lead after three quarters.

The fourth quarter saw the Saints finally get some fuel into their offensive motor as Sacred Heart outscored Kamsack  14-11 in the final quarter but still fell to the Spartans 53-26.

However the 14 point outburst in the final quarter of their second game proved to generate enough momentum for the Lady Saints heading into their final game where they handed the Melville Cobras a 45-24 defeat.

Taneisha Roussin led all Lady Saints with 16 points in the win over Melville while Kendra Varjassy and Justine Zarowny both chipped in with six points each.

The Lady Saints now have a couple of weeks off before heading into the SHSAA 4A Regional playoffs, which have yet to be finalized.
