Sacred Heart High School badminton claims gold

Sacred Heart High school senior badminton team attended tournaments in Melville and Sturgis-Preeceville recently with very successful results. Sacred Heart came away with three gold medals.

Sacred Heart High school senior badminton team attended tournaments in Melville and Sturgis-Preeceville recently with very successful results.

Sacred Heart came away with three gold medals.

In Melville the girls doubles team of Chelsey Yesnik and Brooke-Lyn Somogyi captured gold by defeating Melville  in the semi-final/

The final against Kamsack went to three games before the Sacred Heart duo came away with the victory.

In Sturgis-Preeceville Somogyi captured her second gold medal in two days.

This time she combined with rookie partner Lexi Guy and defeated Keeseekoose in the semi-final and Sturgis in the final.

The girls again went to three games in the final match but won it in an exciting come-from-behind third game to capture the victory.

The boys’ doubles team of Ben Fetsch and Austin Thomas combined for their second gold medal of the season.

The boys had played only one previous tournament, capturing gold in the York City tournament.

Fetsch and Thomas defeated Keeseekoose in the semi-final in two straight games and then went on to defeat the pre tournament favorite Invermay in straight sets to capture the gold.

Next action for the Saints team will be city playoffs Tuesday, April 21 to determine which teams will advance to Districts in Melville Saturday, April 25
