The Sacred Heart senior badminton team travelled to Melville on Saturday, April 25 to participate in districts. Finishing second in their pool in mixed doubles moving on to semi-finals were Lauren Maier and Caleb Sutter.
They advanced to the finals bringing home a silver medal. Finishing first in their pool and also advancing to semi-finals in boys doubles were Ben Fetsch and Austin Thomas.
In an extremely tough and close match that see-sawed back and forth the duo won and advanced to the finals where they won a silver medal.
Finishing first in their pool and moving to the semi-finals and then to finals and bringing home the gold medals in girls doubles were Brooke-Lyn Somogyi and Chelsey Yesnick.
Also finishing first in his pool and strongly playing through to the semi-finals and finals and bringing home a gold medal in boyss singles was Kade Johnson.
These players now advance to Regionals hosted by Melville next Saturday, May 2..
As a result of the hard work and great results for the team Sacred Heart also won the Team Aggregate award.
This award is given to the school receiving the most points for wins during the day’s events.
With four SHHS teams in the final matches, thus winning more points, this award was well deserved for Sacred Heart.
