Rain can’t quell PRA Invitational

The Parkland Racing Association held their annual PRA Invitational at the Yellowhead International Speedway this past weekend. Rain prevented racers from taking to the track on Day One, however Day Two saw everyone get ample time on the race track.

Friday night saw quite a bit of rain fall on Yorkton and area resulting in Day One of the two day PRA Inivational cancelled.

“Unfortunately we tried our best on Saturday but we just got too much rain Friday night and we couldn’t save the track,” said Parkland Racing Association (PRA) president Cortney Matkowski, adding that the PRA club members tried their best to save the day but in the end decided that it was better to take Saturday as a track prep day. “We tried until about 11:30 or 12 o’clock Saturday before we gave up on it because we just couldn’t bring the track back to racing shape and if we raced we might have wrecked the entire track for Sunday.

“Plus it was so cold and miserable out that it wasn’t good for the fans either, although Sunday was a lot better.”

Sunday was a lot better as the rain stayed away, resulting in nearly 30 cars from all over Saskatchewan taking to the Yellowhead International Speedway in the hopes of winning either a significant cash prize or one of several other prizes; something that is relatively new to the PRA. “This is actually our second invitational where we have been offering cash prizes as we tried it last year,” suggested Matkowski. “Being a small budget club we were a little bit worried about putting up money for prizes and stuff like that, but we got a lot of local support from businesses and stuff to bring in the special cars and modifieds and put up prizes and cash purses so we’re really grateful for all of our sponsors and without them this invitational wouldn’t be as big as it is today.”
