The Yorkton Bantam UCT Terriers continued to beat up on their SBAAHL opponents this past weekend.
This weekend's victims: The Swift Current Kabos Raiders and the Notre Dame Hounds.
The two victories give the UCT Terriers a 20-4-1 record for 41 points through 25 games and keeps them solidly in second place, trailing only the Pilot Butte Prairie Storm who sit in first with a 23-2-0 record and 46 points in the SBAAHL's Â鶹´«Ã½AV Division.
The games
McKenzie Welke led the UCT Terriers invasion of Fairview West Arena in Swift Current on Saturday with a four goal performance including two in the first and two in the third, as the UCT Terriers skated away with a convincing 9-1 road victory.
Keanan Sperling and Luke Schappert also scored in the first and third periods while Terriers leading scorer Carson Miller tallied the only Terrier goal of the middle frame.
Cayden Price was the person responsible for breaking Alex Geddes' shutout bid when he scored the lone Swift Current goal via the powerplay midway through the second period.
Sunday's game in Wilcox was much the same as Saturday's in Swift Current as the Terriers offence once again made mincemeat of their opponents, this time beating the hapless Notre Dame Hounds into submission via a 12-0 score line. The UCT Terriers also outshot the Hounds 68-12 in the win.
McKenzie Welke once again led the way with two goals and three assists in the game to give him 25 apiece for 50 points on the season while Miller and Sperling also had two goals each. Luke Schappert, Carson Welke, Reid Perepeluk, Kaeden Taphorn, Tyler Stratechuk and Nicholas Demchuk also found the back of the net for the Terriers while defenceman Cody Dubas had a game high four assists.
Austin Hilderman got the win and shutout turning aside all 12 Hounds shots in the game.
While big wins are nice, these two were, for the most part, expected, as the two opponents (Swift Current and Notre Dame) combined for a total record of 1-42-1. However, it's worth noting that both wins came in other teams' barns, something that UCT Terriers head coach Graham Garrett believes will help his team out in the long run. "You have to do it in the playoffs, right? When you can go into another teams' rink in the regular season and not be intimidated and be able to be prepared to play, it gives you that confidence so that when you have to do it in the playoffs it'll be easier."
Garrett also recognized the effort that his entire team put forth in both of the games. Especially in the fact that in the 12-0 win each player with the exception of two found the score sheet in a positive way. "I think that the biggest strength of our team is that we have three lines and six d-men that we are able to roll out there for the most part. Everyone is contributing each and every night and when we do that we are very tough to beat."
Next action
The next action for the Yorkton UCT Terriers will be Sunday, January 26 when they welcome the Notre Dame Hounds to the Yorkton Kinsmen Arena. Game time is set for 5:45p.m.
