It might not have been at the level of Muhammed Ali versus Joe Frazier, but Sunday's slugfest between the Yorkton Pee Wee Gridders and the Regina Argos is certainly a close second.
The two teams continually traded blows, scoring touchdowns seemingly at will before the Pee Wee Gridders, desperately needing a win to keep their playoff hopes alive, finally knocked out the Argos late in the second half when they reached the 60 point plateau for the first time this season while holding the Argos to a total of 42 points for a 60-42 victory.
The victory, their second in a row, improved their record to 3-4 on the season giving them ninth place for the time being, just one spot out of playoffs with one game remaining.
Quarterback Jordin Rusnack led the Gridder offence scoring two rushing touchdowns while airing out two more to receiver Carson Sveinbjornson while both Dylan Lepowick and Josh Haczkewicz also found the end zone, the latter finding paydirt for the first time this season. "Lepowick ran really hard today. He always brings the intensity when he's running the ball. The little things that he needs to work on are things that he focuses on in practice so good on him as he had a big game," offered Pee Wee head coach Grant Edgar, adding that the Gridder blocking was also on top form throughout the day which directly led to several Gridder touchdowns.
Edgar also mentioned that it was nice to see his team finally find the scoreboard with regularity after posting just 16 points over the last two games, an 8-6 win over the Â鶹´«Ã½AV Pee Wee Griffins and a 53-8 drubbing at the hands of the Regina Mustangs.
