Paul Keys wins championship flight of annual Golden Duck tournament

A former Kamsack recreation director has won a Golden Duck trophy to place beside the one he won in 2013.

聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 聽 A former Kamsack recreation director has won a Golden Duck trophy to place beside the one he won in 2013.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Paul Keys of Yorkton was the championship flight winner of the Golden Duck match play golf championship played at the Madge Lake Golf Resort August 18 to 20 with Molsons and Alaris Royalty as the major sponsors, said Rich Patterson, owner of the golf resort.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Keys defeated Clayton Salkeld of Winnipeg, who had won his first Golden Duck in 2003.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淚t was a wonderful weekend with great weather,鈥 Patterson said. 鈥淲ith 140 golfers registered, this was one of the best Golden Duck competitions we鈥檝e had.鈥

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Winners of the other 13 flights were: first, Chris Burton of Yorkton; second, Austin Thomas of Kamsack; third, Scott Johnson of Yorkton; fourth, Brandon Binkley of Kamsack; fifth, Floyd Purchala of Yorkton; sixth, Eric Pennell of Madge Lake; seventh, Emmitt Driscoll of Calgary; eighth, Logan Chernoff of Estevan; ninth, Wayne Chernoff of Estevan; 10th, Rob Ritchie of Madge lake; 11th Devon Taylor of Lumsden; 12th tyler Fenton of Yorkton, and 13th, Neil Hudye of Regina.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 In the women鈥檚 flight, which was the second time a women鈥檚 flight was part of the competition, sisters Shanley Allard and Sheena Klotz of Kamsack were the champions, Patterson said.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Liam Lachambre of Kamsack won the juniors鈥 competition and the consolation flight was won by Jim Klempp of Madge Lake.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Hole sponsors were: Smoker Broker, Cottenie and Gardner, Kamsack Petro-Canada, Madge Lake Golf Resort, Prairie Soils, Kamsack Home Hardware, Kamsack Integra Tire, Alaris Royalty, National Bank Financial and Dr. Floyd Puchala.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Cottenie and Gardner sponsored a $150,000 hole shoot-out to which 12 golfers had qualified, he said. Unfortunately no one won, but getting closest to the pin was Drew Labelle of Yorkton who won a Sun Ice golf bag.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A banquet meal catered by the Iron Grill of Kamsack helped create a great evening, he said. Door prizes were won throughout the banquet.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Patterson encourages golfers to watch for information for fall golf specials and reminds district residents that the annual ski hill scramble tournament, which raises money for the Duck Mountain Ski Hill, will be played on September 17.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淥ur men鈥檚 night wind-up will be on September 30,鈥 he said, urging persons wishing to learn more about the Golden Duck and Madge Lake Golf Resort to check out their Facebook page.
