A total of 163 athletes, coaches and managers from around the area represented the Parkland Valley last week at the 2014 Saskatchewan Winter Games in Prince Albert.

Out of those 163 representatives, 32 returned home with medals, including four gold (one in a team event), six silver and three bronze (one in a team event) giving Team Parkland Valley eighth place in the nine team event.

Gold

Yorkton's Brynn Jarvis was Parkland Valley's only multiple gold medalist.

The eleven-year-old Jarvis took the gold medal in the All-around Artistic Gymnastics event and shared the top spot on the podium in the Vault Artistic Gymnastics event with two other athletes.

Jarvis' gold medal in the All-around competition was largely due to her performance in the Vault exercise where she recorded a score of 13.100; higher than any other competitor. She also scored well in the Floor exercise (12.450) and on the Balance Beam (11.500) to secure top spot on the podium with an overall score of 36.650.

Another Parkland Valley gold medal came on the slopes.

Madge Lake's Tori Todosichuk laid claim to the gold medal in the Female 14U Alpine Skiing Dual Slalom event, defeating 12 other elite athletes from around the province.

The fourth and final gold medal for Team Parkland Valley was won in the hockey rink. The Parkland Valley boys hockey team, comprised of players aged 13 and 14 from around the area, went undefeated in pool play, coming up victorious over Team Lakeland 3-2, Team Prairie Central 6-3, Team North 23-2 and Team Â鶹´«Ã½AV West 9-2 before doubling up Team Â鶹´«Ã½AV East 8-4 in the gold medal game.

Members of the gold medal winning hockey team were: Dakota Berezowski, Michael Coleridge, Parker Huber, Brett Kemp, Carson Miller, Jordan Repsch, Keenan Taphorn, Kaeden Taphorn, Kaleb Bulych, Braden Kitchen, Nolan Budz, Carter Lake, Reid Perepeluk and Reid Arnold (all from Yorkton), Tyson Stadnyk, Jaxon Tait and Rin Beny (all from Melville), Esterhazy's Luke Nkwama, Rama's Ashton Shewchuk and Theodore's Keanan Sperling.

Silver

Melville's Janaye Quinn-Prieb registered a hat-trick of silver medals for Team Parkland Valley in the 2014 Saskatchewan Winter Games.

The 13-year-old Quinn-Prieb finished just behind Team Lakeland's Sydney Fellman in the 14U Female Slopestyle Snowboarding Day One and Two events as well as the 14U Snowboarding Big Air event.

Tori Todosichuk claimed her second medal of the Games, this time a silver, in the 14U Female Alpine Skiing Slalom Day One event despite leading after her first run (27.90). Her second run, timed at 31.33, was just not enough to hold off Team Rivers West's Shayna Fehr who claimed gold with a total time of 58.22 seconds.

Todosichuk, who was one of just two skiers to finish with a total time of less than one minute, finished with an overall time total of 59.23 seconds, good enough for silver.

One other Parkland Valley athlete saw success on the slopes as well.

Brooklynn Andrusiak of Kamsack also won a silver medal for a skiing event. Her silver came in the 16U Female Alpine Skiing Slalom Day One event.

The 14-year-old Andrusiak, who was competing against older athletes, posted a time of 29.29 in her first run, the second fastest of the day, before laying down a slightly slower run of 31.96 seconds to give her a total time of 1:01.25, second only to the 58.08 total of gold medalist Hannah Penkala of Team Â鶹´«Ã½AV East.

The final silver medal for Team Parkland Valley came in Pairs Figure Skating. The team of 12-year-old Marty Haubrich from Dubuc and 14-year-old Madison Tocher from Esterhazy finished the Harris Tango portion of the competition with a 10.92. That score, combined with their 8.57 in the Ten Fox gave them a total score of 19.49, just over two points behind the gold medal pairing of Alexander Hopkins and Tori Shmon of Team Prairie Central.

Bronze

Two more Parkland Valley athletes became multiple medal winners with their bronze medal victories.

Brooklyn Andrusiak took home the bronze medal in the 16U Female Alpine Skiing Dual Slalom event while Marty Haubrich secured the bronze medal in Class Three boys Free Skate figure skating with a 28.23 score.

The Parkland Valley girls bowling team, comprised of Christina Curry, Reanna Prychak and Ashley Schrader of Yorkton and Dakota Mutrie and Makenna Vinish of Esterhazy, finished second overall in pool play with a 5-2 record before losing to Team Saskatoon in the semi-finals.

The girls rebounded to beat Team Â鶹´«Ã½AV West in the bronze medal game to take the bronze medal.
