Pair of Kats join Cards for summer of '14

Two members of the Erie Community College Kats baseball team will be joining the Yorkton Cardinals for the 2014 WMBL summer baseball season.

Mike Schnurr and Matthew Lahn, both pitchers on the National Junior Collegiate Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Erie Kats baseball team will join the Cardinals for their first season of WMBL action in 2014.

Schnurr, a native of Waterloo, Ontario, has only started one game this year for the Kats striking out three over three innings while surrendering just three hits and one walk in his sophomore season.

In his freshman season last year, however, Schnurr led the Kats in wins with nine, innings pitched (77.1) and complete games with five.

His 53 strikeouts in 2013 was second best on the Kats while his sparkling 2.33 ERA was nearly one run lower than second best on the team (3.26).

If Schnurr can get revert to his freshman form (he was 9-0 in 2013) look for him to be a force on the Cardinals mound.

Schnurr's Erie Kats teammate Matthew Lahn is also a starting pitcher that the Cardinals have signed for the summer of 2014.

But unlike Schnurr, Lahn also doubles as an infielder who can play third, second and shortstop when not on the mound.

On the mound, however, is where Lahn is most comfortable, as proven by his stats.

Hailing from Georgetown, Ontario, Lahn leads the Kats in wins (two), complete games (one), innings pitched (16.1) and strikeouts (12). Lahn has also walked four batters and surrendered 12 hits over those 16.1 innings of work.

Offensively Lahn has collected five hits in 21 at-bats, struck out four times and walked twice while batting .238.

His six RBI's, however, are tied for second overall on the Kats despite hitting in half as many games as the other offensive players.

Welcome to the Yorkton Cardinals and the City of Yorkton to two fellow Canadians, Mike Schnurr and Matthew Lahn!
