New Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Greg Marshall and new defensive co-ordinator Richie Hall were both part of the latter's Golf Classic held recently amidst the rain at the 20th Annual Richie Hall Red Cross Golf Classic at the Deer Park Municipal Golf Course.

Nearly 150 participants entered into the 18-hole Texas Scramble tournament which ran for nearly six hours on Friday.

There were hole sponsors for hole-in-ones, and a silent auction as part of the day.

Two of the Roughriders coaching staff took a few moments to talk to YTW regarding the upcoming CFL season about their anticipated changes.

Hall said that although it is simply part of the game, "we lost some key players" none the least of which included popular wide receiver Andy Fantuz who was offered a contract by the Chicago Bears, "but that's every year," adds Hall of the lost players".

It gives another person the opportunity to stand up. We're excited."

Hall added that he's not worried about anybody else's situation, including that of Montreal Allouette star QB Anthony Calvillo, despite some speculation that he may retire.

"It doesn't matter what other teams do."

Marshall, who came over from the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, said he's looking forward to the opportunity to lead the Green and White back for another opportunity to win a Grey Cup.

Coming over from Hamilton wasn't easy, he said, but insisted that he could not pass up the chance to coach the Riders.

"I enjoyed Hamilton. I'm really looking forward to opening kickoff at Taylor Field."

He added that his biggest challenge is "instead of focussing on the defence, I have to concern myself with all aspects. It's a great opportunity."

Marshall told YTW that he was approached by interview for the head coach of the Riders when last year's head coach Ken Miller stepped down.

"This is exciting," offers Marshall of his new position, adding that because the preseason hasn't even begun yet, it is near impossible to suggest what the 2011 Riders might look like.

"It's yet to be determined as we move forward."

Marshall will head up the coaching staff which includes: Doug Berry, assistant coach/offensive co-ordinator, Bob Dyce, receivers coach/passing game co-ordinator, Craig Dickenson, special teams co-ordinator.
