Josh Moreira of the Yorkton Regional High School was among the participants at the Yorkton Martial Arts Training Centre's Brazilian Jiu Jitsu seminar and challenge held over the weekend.
"I won a gold medal and silver," says Moreira Monday afternoon while on a break from class at school.
He said his medals came as a result of two matches, one in the lightweight division (no gi) and the second medal came in the lightweight division (with gi).
The biggest of the two came victory by submission, while his silver medal came when he was outscored by his opponent by a margin of 5-4.
Moreira said he's only been training in the martial art for a little more than a month but said he plans to stay with it for awhile.
He said his last match at the challenge was against an opponent who was at least 60 lbs bigger than he is. His next competition may have him travel to Regina for a fight in May.
