Mitchell named president of Taekwondo Canada

Taekwondo Canada held its 2017 annual general meeting in Halifax on September 15. The whole board was up for election. Master Mitchell of Kees Yorkton was acclaimed as president until the end of the 2020 Olympic cycle.

Taekwondo Canada held its 2017 annual general meeting in Halifax on September 15. The whole board was up for election.聽 Master Mitchell of Kees Yorkton was acclaimed as president until the end of the 2020 Olympic cycle.聽 Most of the directors that ran again were elected to the board.

Taekwondo Canada is the national sport governing body for the Olympic style of taekwondo that is recognized by Sport Canada, the Canadian Olympic Committee and the global governing body, World Taekwondo.

World Taekwondo is by far the largest and most popular style with 208 (plus one) recognized Member National Associations.聽 The 鈥減lus one鈥 reference is to the support of refugees around the world through the 鈥淭aekwondo Humanitarian Foundation鈥 initiative that saw refugees without a country compete at the 2016 Rio Olympics and 2017 World Championships.

Master Mitchell will be the lead VIP this week in Montreal for the Commonwealth Taekwondo Championships on Sept 26-27 and the Canada Open on Sept 29 to Oct 1.聽 He will also welcome the visiting nations to the Commonwealth Taekwondo Union鈥檚 General Assembly.
