Yorkton netminder Tyler Sherwood gets all the way down in attempt to deny a Foam Lake scoring opportunity late in the third period of last week's Major Hockey League 'A' final at the Farrell Agencies Arena. Yorkton went on to win the game 8-7 needing 32 seconds of overtime to win.

The Mano's Midget Yorkton Terriers nearly went to a third and deciding game but Nathan Guy decided he didn't want to go back to Foam Lake.

Guy took only 32 seconds of overtime to seal a win and secure the Major Hockey League 'A' side Championship trophy last week at the Farrell Agencies Arena.

Guy really didn't want to head back to Foam Lake.

He had also given Yorkton a one-goal lead with 3:16 left.

His brother Justin also had a couple goals in the win.

Then after Foam Lake tied the game at 7-7 with 2:16 left, that sent the game into overtime.

Elias Giannoulis and Dylan Johnson set up Nathan Guy for what was likely the biggest goal he's scored this season.

Coach Guy said after the game that the possibility of going into overtime wasn't on anybody's mind going into Game 2 last Wednesday night.

"Um, I don't know what I would have said," he said with a laugh, before adding "I hope not!"

Yorkton and Foam Lake earned the right to play for the MHL 'A' final. Yorkton won the opener at the Foam Lake arena last Monday with a convincing 8-3 victory.

Coach Guy admitted he was not liking his team's chances of winning had the Flyers tallied in the extra session which would have sent the series to what would be the identical of a Game 7.

"They lost only one game all year long," pleaded Guy, before playful pointed out that "it wasn't against us!"

Foam Lake lost only once and it was against Preeceville, says Guy.

Foam Lake also went into this finals as last year's defending champions.

On top of all of that, he said his team was just coming off a tournament which saw them play in Saskatoon, before heading to Foam Lake for Game 1.

"We came off a Saskatoon tournament," he insisted like he was trying to convince someone his team shouldn't have won.

"We were tired going into the opener. Just the way we took it to them. I have to give the (our) boys credit. It's hard on the heart, but exciting."

Yorkton had plenty of scoring in both games, totalling 16 goals over two games. In Wednesday's finale, they scored twice in each period except the third when they tallied three.

Justin Guy scored the first two goals for Yorkton.

Michael Berezny tallied the lone goal for the Flyers in the opening period.

Martin Pearson and Colton Mckenzie both scored back to back in the middle frame. Foam Lake would tally three times in the second.

It was 4-4 after two periods of play.

The teams would combine for six goals in the third period, including Berezny's second goal and a hat trick effort by Zach Zadorozniak.

Logan Kristjanson would round out the Flyers' scoring with 2:16 left to send it to overtime.

Johnson, as well as both Guys, tallied in the third for Yorkton before Nathan Guy scored in overtime.

"I'm very proud (of the team), says coach Guy, adding he was hoping they wouldn't have to make a return trip to Foam Lake.
