The Yorkton RawTec Maulers had two games in Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League action last weekend, as they hosted the Saskatoon Contacts on Saturday and Sunday.

The two teams split the weekend series, with the Maulers winning on Saturday evening and the Contacts winning on Sunday.

Saturday’s match up saw the Contacts strike first in the opening 20 minutes of play on a power play. With less than a minute left in the period, the Maulers tied the game up on a shorthanded goal from forward Beau Stevenson.

In the second period, Maulers leading scorer Zach McIntyre scored a power play goal to give Yorkton the lead over Saskatoon.

In the third, McIntyre and Ryder Pierson each added one for the Maulers to give them a final score of 4-1.

Dakota Berezowski had the win in net for the Maulers, blocking 23 of 24 shots.

The victory celebrations were short lived for the Maulers, as the Contacts came back strong and ready to win on Sunday afternoon, with a convincing 7-0 final score.

Jordan Schmuland got the start in net for the Maulers, playing for the first two periods. Berezowski took over after that, but also couldn’t seem to find his groove in the crease that day.

The Maulers are currently in sixth place in league standings. McIntyre is leading the team in points with 19 from 11 goals and 8 assists. Behind him is rookie Ryder Korczak with 16 points from 9 goals and 7 assists. Rookie Jackson Berezowski rounds out the top three in points with 15 from 5 goals and 10 assists.

The Maulers are on the road this week to take on the Regina Pat Canadians on Wednesday. They’ll return to home ice at the Farrell Agencies Arena on Wednesday, Dec. 6 when they host the Notre Dame Hounds. The puck will drop at 8 p.m.
