The Yorkton RawTec Maulers are sitting at third place in the rankings of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League.

They’ve played six games so far, and their record is 2-3-1. This gives them five points, while the Notre Dame Hounds have six and the Tisdale Trojans have seven.

The Maulers have played three games in the past week. Last Wednesday they faced the Notre Dame Hounds and lost 4-3 after a close game. Yorkton’s goals came from Ryder Korczak (2) and Ryder Pierson.

On Saturday and Sunday, the league gathered in Warman for their showcase. The Maulers played two games over the two days.

On Saturday they faced the Tisdale Trojans and won 4-1. Dakota Berezowski played in goal for Yorkton and stopped 19 of 20 shots on net. Yorkton’s four goals came from Mackenzie Walkington, Zach McIntyre, Reid Arnold and Keanan Sperling. All four were scored in the third period.

On Sunday, the Maulers fell 4-1 to the Saskatoon Contacts. Jordan Schmuland was between the pipes for that game, and blocked 31 of 35 shots. The Maulers’ one goal came from Beau Stevenson.

Maulers rookies Ryder Korczak and Jackson Berezowski are currently third and fourth, respectively, in the league in points.

Korczak has five points from three goals and two assists, while Berezowski has five points from two goals and three assists.

Last year, both forwards were in the top three of their bantam AA league for points, so it’s not surprising that they’ve had scoring success this year.

The Maulers have this week off from game action. They play again on Oct. 14 against the Beardy’s Blackhawks in Ochapowace First Nations. They’ll return to home ice at the Farrell Agencies Arena on Sunday, Oct. 15 to play the Blackhawks at 1:00 p.m.
