The Yorkton Terriers have added some local talent to their roster for the 2017-18 season.聽
Goalie Nolan Maier, a 16-year-old Yorkton product, was signed to the Terriers last week after being released from the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL.聽
Terriers head coach/GM Casey O鈥橞rien said they were happy to add Maier to their roster.聽
鈥淵ou can see that he鈥檚 got a lot of potential out there. We鈥檙e very excited to have him. He鈥檚 going to be a hell of a goalie for us,鈥� said O鈥橞rien.聽
The coach added that any time they can get a good, local player, it鈥檚 great for the team.聽
Having grown up watching the Terriers play, Maier said he鈥檚 excited to finally be on the ice with them.聽
鈥淲hen I found out I was going to be part of this team, it鈥檚 what I wanted to do,鈥� said Maier. 鈥淚鈥檓 really excited to be a Terrier.鈥�
He said he鈥檚 always looked up to the Terriers and how they take part in community events, so he鈥檚 looking forward to experiencing that aspect of the team, too.聽
Maier hasn鈥檛 been with the team for long, but he said the practices so far have been good as they prepared for this week鈥檚 showcase in Saskatoon.聽
As the only Yorkton native on the Terriers, Maier said he might feel a little bit more pressure.聽
聽鈥淚 think the most pressure I have is the pressure I put on myself. Being from here, there鈥檚 more friends and family, so I鈥檓 more comfortable. I can be me here and that鈥檚 what I want,鈥� he said.聽
Maier spent last season with the Yorkton RawTec Maulers of the SMAAAHL. He played in 24 regular season games and had a .920 save percentage. In playoffs, he played a total of five games and had a .853 save percentage.聽
