Six Yorkton and area golfers are competing in the 2015 Saskatchewan Junior Men’s and Women’s Provincial Golf Championships at Yorkton’s Deer Park Municipal Golf Course this week.
Of the six, five are competing in the men’s competition while just one – Melville’s Chloe Sies – is taking part in the women’s competition.
As of press time Sies was sitting in fourth place in the women’s competition, shooting a score of 91 in her first round for a score of +11.
As for the men, Yorkton’s Kade Johnson leads the local contingent with a five over (+5) 77 on the par 72 course, good enough for a six-way tie at eighth place and seven shots back of tournament leading Corey Bailey (Shaunavon) and Marc Sweeney (Saskatoon), who both sit at -2 after shooting a round of 70.
Stephen Oleskiw (Yorkton) and Henry Thomas (Kamsack) were tied with two others for 29th place after shooting 83 in their first round for +11, while Reid Arnold (Yorkton) and Carter Lake (Yorkton) sit in 52nd and 54th respectively with scores of +19 (Arnold) and +20.
The tournament continued yesterday and ends today (Wednesday).
