Local athletes at Canada Summer Games

The 2017 Canada Summer Games wrapped up on Sunday, August 13 after two weeks of competition. Team Saskatchewan finished in seventh place overall, gathering up 35 medals (eight gold, ten silver, 17 bronze).

The 2017 Canada Summer Games wrapped up on Sunday, August 13 after two weeks of competition. 

Team Saskatchewan finished in seventh place overall, gathering up 35 medals (eight gold, ten silver, 17 bronze). 

Ontario came out on top with 212 medals (87 gold, 65 silver, 60 bronze). In second place was British Columbia with 146 medals (55 gold, 49 silver, 42 bronze).

Last week, Yorkton This Week had an update on the first half of the games and the local athletes who competed. 

This week, the second half of the games and the local athletes who competed are highlighted. 

Canora’s Spencer Steele, who plays with Yorkton United Football Club, played on the men’s soccer team. The team finished in ninth place in the games.

Jessica Riley of Yorkton was one of the coaches for the Team Sask Canoe-Kayak team. That team competed across a number of canoe-kayak events in different divisions. They had several impressive placings, including four fourth place finishes.

In golf, Yorkton’s Kade Johnson finished in seventh place overall in the junior men’s individual division. Team Sask men’s team finished eighth overall.
