Lady Saints v-ball comes up short

The Sacred Heart Sr. Girls volleyball team took part in the 10-team Estevan tournament on Sept. 28. In the first match the Lady Saints lost their first set against Carlyle 20 - 25, but fought back to take the second 25 - 17.

In the first match the Lady Saints lost their first set against Carlyle 20 - 25, but fought back to take the second 25 - 17. The Lady Saints then defeated Moosomin and Rocanville two straight before facing Oxbow in the final round robin match. SHHS came out flat in the first set losing 7 -25, but returned to form in the second set losing 23 - 25 to finish second in the pool.

In the quarter finals SHHS faced YRHS. In the first set SHHS took control early and won 25 - 18, but in the second set struggled to put the match away and eventually lost 25 - 27 to force a third set. Again the Lady Saints came out flat at one point down 1 - 8. Sacred Heart then began to battle back eventually tying and taking the lead. In a great battle which neither team wanted to lose the Lady Saints prevailed winning the tie breaker 19 -17 to advance to the semi-final.

The Saint surged out to an early lead against the host Estevan team and won the first set 25 - 23, the second set went to Estevan 25 - 27 and Estevan earned the victory winning set three 12 - 15.

"I was very happy with the performance of the team especially since we were without our two starting grade 12 power hitters who were playing soccer with the Saints soccer team," said SHHS coach Perry Enns. " Our young players got a lot of court time and I was very impressed how well they all played."

YRHS tourney

The lady Saints volleyball team took part in a 10-team tourney at Yorkton Regional High School over the weekend.

In the round robin the Lady Saints won the first game against the YRHS B team 25 - 9, but lost the second 23 - 25. SHHS defeated Prince Albert St. Mary's 25 - 20 and 27 - 25. Then against Foam Lake SHHS lost game one 26 - 28, but Foam Lake battled back to win the second set 26 - 24. The final pool match was against Oxbow who defeated SHHS 14 - 25 and 21 - 25.

The Lady Saints finished third in their pool and faced the YRHS A team in the quarter final. In the first set the Lady Saints won easily 25 - 10, but YRHS took the second set 14 - 25 to force a third set. In a fantastic third set YRHS squeaked out a victory winning 14 -16.
