The Sacred Heart Saints senior girls’ volleyball team held its home tournament last weekend.

They finished the round robin with a 6-6 record. That record put them in a three-way tie with Melfort and Estevan.

After breaking the tie, SHHS faced Estevan in the quarterfinal. The two evenly matched teams traded points and the lead bounced back and forth several times throughout the match.

Estevan took the first set 25-20. In the second set, the Lady Saints battled back and took an early lead. But Estevan regained the lead and ended up winning the set 25-18 to advance to the semi-finals.

Estevan defeated Langenburg in the semi and faced Melfort in the final. Melfort defeated Estevan two straight to claim the championship.

Saints had strong performances from many players over the weekend. Most notable were Charis Adefolarin, who led the team in blocks, Janeen Pellatt, who was a dominant hitting from the power position, and Hannah Wyatt who led the team offence as setter.

Yorkton Regional finished in seventh place with a 3-9 record.

This coming weekend, the volleyball action moves to Melfort for their tournament.
