The Lady Saints senior basketball team travelled to Notre Dame this past weekend to play in the 4A Regional Basketball play-offs.
The Saints went in to the tournament as the 15th ranked team in the province, meaning they had to take on the second ranked Notre Dame Hounds in their first game.
The hometown Hounds came out quick and strong taking an early 8 - 0 lead before the Saints could set in and play their game.
The Saints went on a 10-2 run to tie the game at 10 late in the first quarter, but a strong finish by the Hounds resulted in an 18-12 Saints deficit after one.
The Hounds showed why they were the second ranked team coming in to Regionals in the second quarter, dominating the Saints to take a 47-18 lead into the half thanks, in large part to their press which gave the Saints a lot of difficulty resulting in many uncharacteristic turnovers.
In the third the Saints continued to struggle to make any real strong offence as the Hounds pulled out to a 63-23 lead by the start of the fourth.
In the final frame the Saints were able to play some offence but it was just too late to get back in the game, resulting in a 75-33 loss to drop the Saints over to the 'B' side for Saturday.
Leading scorers for the Saints were Swiss sensation Corin Heim with 12, Hanna Hansen with six and Morgan Shymanski with five while young Justine Zarowny had a strong game for the Saints in her defensive role.
Saturday morning saw the Saints play Regina Luther for the third and fourth place finish as Luther had lost to North Battleford in the second game on Friday.
The Lady Saints had another slow start as Luther had a strong inside game that gave them a lead that they never gave up.
The Saints worked hard to stay in the game and despite trailing they made it a very exciting game coming up short in losing 68-58 in the final.
Leading scorers in this game were Shymanski with 27, Heim 14, and Taneisha Roussin with six.
Overall the Lady Saints had a strong season finishing with 19 wins and 9 losses.
Graduating from the team this year are Morgan Shymanski, Hanna Hansen and Kelsey Woloschuk as well as Corin Heim who will be returning back to Chur, Switzerland and the end of the school year.
The coaches would like to congratulate and thank all the girls for their hard work and dedication throughout the season as it was a lot of fun for all.
