The Sacred Heart Sr. Girls Volleyball team took part in the 32 team U of R Autumn Classic.
SHHS took on Lumsden to begin the tournament losing the first set 15 - 25, but the Lady Saints battled back winning the second set 25 - 18 to force a third set. Lumsden seized the momentum early and never looked back winning 6 - 15. The Saints faced Invermay next winning 25 - 17, dropped the second set 17 - 25, but battled back to win the match 15 - 10 in the third. The final match of the night was against a strong team from Campbell High School dropping two straight 22 - 25 and 5 - 25 which gave the team third in their pool.
Saturday morning the Saints faced Indian Head. The Lady Saints struggled to wake up and lost set one 19 -25, but won 25 - 15 to again go to a third set. SHHS came up short in a see saw battle losing 12 - 15. The Saints then faced Langham winning 25 - 13 and 25 - 10 to advance to the B side semi-final of the Consolation pool. In that match true to form the Lady Saints went to three matches. In the first set SHHS lost 22 - 25, set two went our way winning 25 - 23 but lost the third 8 - 15. In the Bronze match SHHS again faced Invermay and again went to three games. In the first set the lead changed several times but eventually Invermay won 25 - 27. SHHS battled back to win the second set 25 - 22 and kept the momentum to win set three 15 - 11
"I was very happy with our performance this weekend," said SHHS head coach Perry Enns. "We played a lot of volleyball and all of our players got some court time even the rookies. We do need to work on our consistency and our ability to win when we have momentum rather than always going to a third set."
Next weekend the Lady Saints travel to Weyburn to take part in a 12-team tournament.
