The YRHS Lady Raiders traveled to Swift Current this past weekend to take part in a basketball tournament with the hopes of being competitive.
What resulted, however, were two blowout losses, 66-30 to the Luther Lions out of Regina and a 67-33 loss to the Weyburn Eagles, as well as a close 43-39 setback at the hands of the Moose Jaw Vanier Spirits.
The loss against Vanier was the toughest pill to swallow for a very young Lady Raiders squad that boasts just two grade 12 players, as the Raiders had a 15 point lead at one point in the game before allowing the Spirits to battle back and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.
Lady Raiders head coach Jessica Schmidt felt that the team was fairly ineffective against pressure largely due to their inexperience, however she plans on working with her team in practice to make sure that next time they are in a tournament they will know exactly what to do. "It will certainly be a focus of ours in the New Year," said Schmidt via text message. "These girls are definitely better than the scores suggest."
