The Yorkton Fighting Pikes field lacrosse team travelled to Saskatoon this past weekend to take part in the Saskatoon Lacrosse Festival, which included games for U14, U11 and U8 teams as well as provincials for U18 and U15.
Yorkton entered a team in all but one category, choosing instead to send four players to the U18 provincials with Sturgis due to not having enough older players to field a team.
The Fighting Pike U11 and U8 teams found success in Saskatoon as both teams went undefeated on the weekend while the U14 club went 1-3 against much more experienced competition from Saskatoon.
An undermanned U15 squad lost two games in the U15 provincial championship tournament but still came away with a bronze medal in their first year of competition.
Overall the club performed admirably at one of Saskatchewan’s biggest lacrosse festivals, managing to win the majority of their games, especially at the beginner level, while playing competitively in the higher age groups.
