Kade Johnson is putting Yorkton on the map in the junior golfing world.
The 14-year-old golfer now has back-to-back second place finishes at the Saskatchewan Junior Golf Provincials. He finished the 2013 Jr. Golf Provincial Tournament at Hillcrest Golf Course in Moose Jaw with a 79.
"I'm happy with how it went in Moose Jaw," said Johnson, who fell to Noah Kozak in the tournament. "I played the first two rounds solid. You always want to win, but I feel good about how I performed. I didn't get some bounces I would have liked, but that's how it goes sometimes. And Kozak played really well. You have to give him credit."
Johnson went into the provincial tournament knowing fully well what to expect. He played at the Hillcrest Golf Course in the past and golfed three practice rounds before it started.
"I was familiar with the course," said Johnson. "I've played at it before and got in some practice rounds. Every course is different, so I made sure to know the ins and outs of it before provincials started."
Johnson is now poised to take part in various tournaments in Saskatchewan and Manitoba before the golfing season ends.
"I should be pretty busy," said Johnson, who turns 15 in August. "I have some tournaments coming up in Saskatoon and other places. I am also going to keeping on playing with the Deer Park crew and by myself. I try to golf as much as I can."
Johnson took part in his first Saskatoon tournament on July 25-26. He went onto win the MJT Bantam Boys Division, shooting 78-72 (150).
With a strong love and passion for the game, Johnson hopes to make golf his full-time gig one day.
"It would be great to be a professional golfer," he said. "I really enjoy playing golf and I don't think there would be a better job than playing golf for a living."
