Yorkton鈥檚 own Jaxon Sperling has been drafted by the Winnipeg ICE. The Yorkton聽 14 year old was picked in Round 13 by the Ice, 278 overall.
Sperling said that the draft made him nervous, because it was getting pretty late before he was picked up by the ICE.
鈥淚t was very exciting news when my name popped up on the list.鈥�
For Sperling, he鈥檚 looking forward to going to camp and having the chance to prove himself.
鈥淧roving to them that maybe I should have been taken earlier,鈥� Sperling said.
Of course, this season was shorter than planned, and Sperling said that off-season training has been a challenge, but that鈥檚 a challenge all of the players are facing, so they鈥檙e going to be in the same position.
鈥淵ou just have to come to the next season ready,鈥� Sperling said.
The ICE is a relatively new organization, and Sperling is excited to be a part of it. He said he鈥檚 looking forward to meeting new people and getting to play in a city where he hasn鈥檛 had much experience before, only playing in Winnipeg itself a couple times.
Sperling also said that he needs to give his father 鈥� Jeff Sperling 鈥� credit for helping him in his hockey career. With the number of camps, practices and games a young player has to attend, Sperling said that it was his dad鈥檚 support that helped him grow as a player.
With a couple Yorkton players getting drafted, Sperling hopes that it鈥檚 a sign for scouts that they need to keep a close eye on the city and that there a number of good prospects in the community they need to look at.

Sperling expects to play with the Yorkton Maulers squad this fall.
