The ECDAA High School Curling Championships were held on February seventh and eighth at the Yorkton Curling Club.
Schools competing included Churchbridge, Esterhazy, Invermay, Melville, Norquay, Pelly, Sacred Heart High School, Sturgis, and Yorkton Regional High School.
The top two teams in each event earn the right to represent the ECDAA at the Regional Championship and from there the top two qualify to move on to Provincials.
The YRHS girls team advanced to Regionals by winning the gold medals. The Esterhazy girls team also moved on the Regionals, which will be held in Lumsden, by defeating Sacred Heart in the 'B' side finals.
The YRHS mixed team also won gold and clinched a spot in Regionals, while the Sturgis mixed team will also be competing in Regionals after they defeated Churchbridge in the 'B' side finals. The mixed Regionals will be held in Kelliher.
One other Yorkton team won gold over the weekend. The Sacred Heart boys team punched their ticket to the Regional tournament in Â鶹´«Ã½AVey. Joining them will be the boys team from Esterhazy, who defeated Churchbridge in the 'B' side finals.
The East Central Junior District Curling Championships were held at the Yorkton Curling Club on January 31 and February 1.
A total of 15 teams participated in three divisions: Boys, girls and mixed but when all was said and done only three of the 15 teams laid claim to gold.
The YRHS junior girls team of Frances Toth, Paxtyn Kruger, Sean Thompson and Halle Harris were coached superbly by Grant Bjornerud and Janet Varga en route to the gold medal in the female division, beating Esterhazy 8-3 in the final game.
The Saltcoats rink laid claim to the mixed division gold medal, narrowly defeating a talented Kamsack rink 6-5 in the gold medal game while Churchbridge took home the boys title with a 6-5 victory over Norquay.
Two Sturgis rinks took home bronze medals in the boys and girls categories respectfully while Esterhazy won bronze in the mixed division.
The season is now finished for the junior teams.
