Too many trips to the sin bin led to the Yorkton Harvest dropping their lone game of the week against the Tisdale Trojans.
In the 7-4 loss in the Tisdale Recplex, the Harvest accumulated 34 minutes worth of penalties.
"It was unfortunate to lose the way we did," said Harvest head coach Dan Cross. "We worked against ourselves in the game. We took too many unnecessary penalties like a four-minute checking to the head and unsportsmanlike penalties. It was frustrating to watch."
Following Trojans sniper Wyatt Hinson and Harvest rookie Tyler Kreklewich exchanging goals in the opening frame, Tisdale started to take control of the game in the second period. Cole McBride scored one and Tanner Nagel potted two with Chase McKersie the only Harvest to respond for Yorkton.
The final 20 minutes was a back-and-forth affair to say the least. Yorkton rookie Marc Shaw got the ball rolling with a goal; however, Tisdale's Drew Litwin and Hinson quickly dashed the Harvest's momentum with one apiece. Tanner Jeannot gave Yorkton hope with a power-play marker with just over three minutes left. But Tristen Elder put the nail on the coffin for the Trojans as he scored on the penalty kill less than two minutes later.
Harvest goalie Carson Bogdan stopped 24 of 31 shots while Brandon Holtby turned aside 21 of 25 pucks at the other end of the ice.
The loss pushed the Harvest down in the standings to sixth place with an 8-7-1-2 record.
The Harvest will have plenty of opportunity to hurdle some of their rivals this week as they have three games on the schedule. They kick off the week by hosting the Notre Dame Argos on Wednesday, Nov. 27 at Farrell Agencies Arena with puck drop at 8 p.m. They later host the Prince Albert Mintos in back-to-back contests on Saturday and Sunday.
"The standings are tight so we can't leave too many points on the board," said Cross. "We need to have a better effort than we did against Tisdale and get some wins."
