A terrible 1-6-2-1 record in their past 10 games has plummeted the Yorkton Harvest to eighth place in the 12 team SMAAAHL at the Christmas break with a 9-12-4-2 record, nine points up on the ninth place Swift Current Legionnaires and five points behind the Saskatoon Contacts for seventh.
The Harvest are currently second overall with 547 total penalty minutes behind only the Tisdale Trojans (568). Defenceman Turner Ottenbreit leads the Harvest with 82 PIM.
Estevan product Chase McKersie leads the Harvest in scoring with 13 goals and 15 assists for 28 points in 27 games this season.
Harvest captain Corwin Stevely has also excelled this season. Stevely had a strong December potting four goals and picking up one assist in six games to give him a total of eight goals and ten assists on the season.
Rookie Carter Phair has been strong in the net for the Harvest so far ithis season. In 13 games the youngster from Carnduff has posted a 6-5-1 record, a 2.75 goals against average and a .914 save percentage.
Final 17 games
Five of the Harvest's final 17 games are against two teams they are chasing in the standings (Saskatoon Contacts and Regina Pat Canadians). Regina is six points above Yorkton in the standings, while the Contacts are only five points ahead.
Six of their final 17 games are against teams lower in the standings (Swift Current Legionnaires, Beardy's Blackhawks, Saskatoon Blazers and Notre Dame Hounds), while six of their final 17 games are against teams that the Harvest have somewhat struggled against: the Tisdale Trojans, Moose Jaw Generals, Battlefords Stars and Notre Dame Argos.
