Grandson of Canora residents plays first NHL game

Morgan Klimchuk of the Calgary Flames, grandson of Jerry and Joanne Klimchuk of Canora, played his first NHL game on February 19 in Calgary against the Boston Bruins.

            Morgan Klimchuk of the Calgary Flames, grandson of Jerry and Joanne Klimchuk of Canora, played his first NHL game on February 19 in Calgary against the Boston Bruins.

            The Klimchuks said everyone in the Klimchuk family, including Morgan’s parents Kade and Michelle and his sister Jayme were “beyond excited.â€
            Morgan was born and raised in Calgary, making the day even more memorable for him and his family.

            Before turning professional, the soon to be 23-year-old had a standout junior career with the Regina Pats and the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League.

            He was drafted by the Flames in the first round of the 2013 National Hockey League draft, 28th overall.  Before being called up to the Flames, Klimchuk had spent the 2017-18 with the Flames’ American Hockey League team, the Stockton Heat, where he scored 14 goals and 15 assists for 29 points in 45 games.

            After the game against the Bruins, the Flames returned Klimchuk to Stockton to rejoin the Heat.
