Indoor gym practices have started for the Yorkton girls softball team.
There are two more scheduled practices at the Gloria Hayden Centre. Practices will go from 3-5 p.m.
The first hour will be for Mite and Squirt-age girls (born in 2004, 03,02, 01 and 2000).
The second hour will be for Pee Wee, Bantam and Midget-age girls (born in 1999, 1998, 1997, 1996, 1995, 1994). Practices will be held on April 15 and 22 and provided at no cost and anyone can attend.
The softball team competes in the 981 Ball League which includes teams from Melville, Esterhazy, Langenburg, Moosomin, Roblin, Whitewood and a few other surrounding communities.
Games are played on Tuesday and Thursday nights as well as one doubleheader on a Sunday during the season.
The season runs from May to June. There is also the opportunity to play in the provincial championships in July. Also, Bantam aged girls will have the opportunity to represent Zone4 at the Saskatchewan Summer Games in early August in Meadow Lake.
Also, the Bantams will have the chance to tryout for the Zone 4 all star team and attend a tournament Aug. 24-26 in Moosomin.
The annual general meeting will be held this weekend.
A number of new uniforms have been purchased, however, due to a growing number of players, the team is looking to purchase more. The cost is $1000 per 16 uniforms and will display business names on the back. The sponsorship will last as long as the jerseys do so a guarantee of at least five years. Receipts will be issued.
