The Yorkton United FC U12 team Germany have found continued success at the 2016 World Class Players World Cup in Regina.

The team comprised primarily of Yorkton and area players, as well as several Regina and Moose Jaw-based players, picked up a convincing 11-1 win over Romania in their final round-robin game to improve their round-robin record to 3-0 on Sunday morning.

Justin Adam, Travis Foreman, Fardin Azizi and Aleksa Bijelic all scored two goals while Tomas Quinde, Jerry Chen and Matthew Dietrich added singles in the win. “We kept the possession up, and we’re a possession team, so we handled that well and we didn’t panic much,” said Germany head coach Benno Looft, continuing, “I think we took our time and really passed the ball around and created a lot of chances.

“I think our goals game so quickly – one after another – and it’s nice to see that we’re finally finishing again. We struggled the last game with finishing although we created a lot of chances, but I thought we finally utilized our chances and pulled ahead quite nicely.”

The 11-1 win propelled Yorkton-Germany to the U12 semi-finals on Monday, where they were set to take on Scotland; the same team that eliminated them from the playoffs last season with a 3-1 defeat.

This time around it was Germany, not Scotland, that advanced to the finals, as Yorkton-Germany managed to gain revenge from last year’s defeat in the form of a 5-0 shutout victory.

Aleksa Bijelic, Jerry Chen and Matthew Dietrich all found the net once in the game, while Yorkton’s Justin Adam scored twice to lead the way for Germany.

Yorkton-Germany will now take on India in the U12 World Cup championship game on Thursday evening in Regina.

Yorkton-Germany previously defeated India 4-2 in round-robin play.
