The Gallagher Centre swimming pool has adopted a new process for children 10 years old and younger looking to use the pool. It was implemented on July 4, and it all comes down to three wristband colours – red, yellow and green – which all have different meanings.

What the bands mean

Red bands indicate children 6 years old and under, who must be accompanied by an adult (18+). The children must remain within direct supervision, and within an arm’s reach of their supervisor. There is a maximum of two children per supervisor.

Yellow bands indicate children aged 7-10 who must be accompanied by a guardian (16+). Children must remain under direct supervision and within an arm’s reach of the guardian. There is a maximum of four children per supervisor.

Green bands go to children aged 7-10 who pass the Waterpark Admission Test – they may swim unsupervised. Children with the green bands can be asked to take the test again if he aquatic staff are concerned that they demonstrate the ability to maintain the Waterpark Admission Test.

The test can be done at the pool during any swim. After a child gets their green band, they can get a swim test card that indicates that they’ve already taken and passed the test, in order to get a green band next time they visit the pool.

The swim test requires a child to swim two widths of the lap pool without touching the bottom or sides at the shallow end.
