The Yorkton Force U-16 female volleyball team hosted their first tournament as their own volleyball club after breaking out from the Yorkton Blitz Volleyball Club prior to the beginning of the club season, finishing seventh with an overall record of 4-3.

The Yorkton Blitz U-15 also took part in the U-16 tournament going winless as the younger girls went 0-7 throughout the two day tournament.

Force results

The Force opened the tournament with a convincing straight sets win over their Yorkton rival the Blitz, downing the younger team 25-14, 25-21 to move to 1-0 on the tournament.

The Force then took on a tough Warman side, taking the first set 25-18 before dropping the second set 25-20.

This set up a third and final set that saw Warman get the better of the Yorkton ladies, edging them 15-13 to take the game two sets to one and even Yorkton’s record at 1-1.

The hard luck continued for the Force girls in their third game of the tournament against Lanigan. Despite some strong play and extended rallies, a lack of communication set in resulting in a straight sets loss 25-20, 25-19 and sending them into a must win game against the Regina Volleyball Club (RVC).

Unfortunately for the Force their much needed win simply did not materialize as they dropped to 1-3 with their second straight sets defeat of the tournament, this time to RVC 25-14, 25-11.

The 1-3 record put the Force in fourth place in Pool ‘A’ after the teams were re-pooled, joining Carlyle, the East Central Elite and the Yorkton Blitz U-15 team in Pool ‘O’.

After the re-pool the Force showed that they could be just that, a force, taking out the Blitz once again, this time by identical 25-12 scores and the East Central Elite by identical 25-13 scores.

The Force had a little bit more trouble with Carlyle, dropping the first set 25-23 before rebounding to take the second set 25-21 and third set 15-11 to set up a seventh place game against East Central.

However East Central forfeited the final game of the tournament, handing over seventh place in the process.

Blitz U-15 results

The Yorkton Blitz U-15 girls had a rough go of it at the U-16 tournament, winning just one set all weekend and finishing 0-7 by tournament’s end.

The Blitz opened the tournament with a straight sets loss to the Force, falling 25-14 and 25-21, before three more straight sets losses, 25-3, 25-6 to Regina, 25-14, 25-14 to Warman and 25-15, 25-7 to Lanigan.

Things didn’t get better after the re-pool for the only underage team at the tournament, losing to Carlyle 25-5, 25-15 and the Force 25-12, 25-12.

However a hard fought match against the East Central Elite (26-24, 24-26,15-6) in which the U-15 Blitz managed to take one set (second set 26-24) proved that the U-15 Blitz should be a force to be reckoned with in their own age category.
