The Sacred Heart senior boys basketball team played in Melville two weekends ago and finished in second place, says Garrett Karcha, coach of the team.

Sacred Heart beat the host, Melville, 72-38. Preston Liebrecht, Carter Ruff, Logan Coutts and Nathan Ruff chipped in with 47 points between the four of them. Liebrecht led with 17, while the others added 10 each.

"It was a good clean game," says Karcha. "Everyone got playing time and (we) led from start to finish."

Next, Sacred Heart played Estevan and won 78-58. Liebrecht had 20 points and Coutts added 19 points.

"Estevan had a one-point lead at the half time but a strong second half gave Sacred Heart a comfortable lead and many of the bench players chipped in," Karcha observed.

Sacred Heart advanced to the gold medal game where they fell to Moosomin, 71-58. "The game started out very close but at the half, Moosomin had an 18-point lead that Sacred Heart couldn't overcome. A strong press and three-point shooting brought Sacred Heart within six points near the end of the game, but Moosomin was just too strong in the end." Their next action will be this weekend (Dec. 16-17) when they host a tournament.
