The YRHS Senior Raider boys’ volleyball team picked up their first competition victory of the season this past weekend, dropping just two sets all tournament en route to the Sturgis Men’s Volleyball tournament title.
“It was an entire team effort, as each player saw floor time during the tournament,” offered first year head coach Brendon Weir. Everyone played well when they were out on the court and the team stayed positive and supportive during the tough times in the matches.”
The Raiders went undefeated in round-robin play, sweeping aside both Langenburg and Preeceville with relative ease before edging Norquay two-sets-to-one to finish first overall in their pool.
The Senior Raiders then took on Kahkewistahaw in the semi-finals, battling the tough squad from Chief Kahkewistahaw Community School over three sets, finally putting them away in the third set to move to the tournament final.
Their toughest opponents behind them, the Senior Raiders made short work of the host Sturgis Trojans, dropping the home squad in straight sets to claim the tournament title.
The Senior Raiders will now take next weekend off for Thanksgiving before getting back at it in Melville, where they’ll compete in a tournament on October 16 and 17.
