Fifteen medals for Parkland Valley

Team Parkland Valley won a total of 15 medals at the Saskatchewan Winter Games in North Battleford. That medal total includes 5 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze. The gold medals were split between figure skating and weightlifting.

Team Parkland Valley won a total of 15 medals at the Saskatchewan Winter Games in North Battleford. That medal total includes 5 gold, 4 silver and 6 bronze.

The gold medals were split between figure skating and weightlifting. Michael Romanchook, 14, of Esterhazy took gold in Figure Skating Free Skate - Male Class 2. Romanchook and sister Andelina, 11, took gold in the Figure Skating Ice Dance - Class 2 Mixed.

Three different weightlifters took Team Parkland Valley’s gold medals in the sport. Yorkton’s Kurt Hoffman, 16, won gold in the 94kg Male category. Willowbrook’s Riley Richards, 16, won gold in the 94kg+ category and Yorkton’s Kari Adane, 13, won gold in the 48kg women’s category.

Every silver medal was in a different sport. Team Parkland Valley took the silver in bowling. Yorkton’s Madison Bowtell, 11 years old, took silver in Figure Skating Free Skate - Class 1 Female. Yorkton’s  Eloise Cristo, 9, took the silver medal in Gymnastics - Floor Exercise Female. Yorkton’s Katelynne Hoffman, 14, took second prize in Weightlifting 75kg+ Female.

Bronze went mostly to gymnasts, with the lone exception being Esterhazy’s Torie Patterson, who won bronze in the Biathlon Sprint U15 Female. Yorkton’s Danica Signarowski, 10, won bronze in Gymnastics All Around Trampoline Mixed. Gymnast Danielle Ronn of Ebenezer, 9, won two bronze, taking the prize in female balance beam and floor exercise. Gymnast Claire Zwidzinski took two bronze medals, in trampoline and tumbling trampoline.

The week-long event saw 1,356 athletes compete in 17 different winter sports, with youth from the ages of 11-17 making up the majority of participants.
