The East Central District Athletic Association (ECDAA) held its Senior District Curling Championship this weekend at the Yorkton Curling Club.
Teams taking part were from high schools from around the area including Churchbridge, Esterhazy, Sacred Heart, Sturgis, Melville, Yorkton Regional High School, Kamsack, Invermay and Norquay.
Sacred Heart, made up of Tanner Kinaschuk (skip), Daniel McCoshen (third), Reese Kinaschuk (second), Carmen Kormos (lead). and Ben Fetsch (spare) took the boys’ gold medal, however Sacred Heart had to opt out of representing the ECDAA at the 2015 Regional event.
Instead, Esterhazy boys consisting of skip Wyatt Johanson, third Morgan Palmer, second Ron Lee, lead Braiden Miller and alternate Jake Johanson will represent the ECDAA.
The Churchbridge rink of Morgan Boreen (skip), Tucker Boreen (third), Josh Spilchen (second) and Cody Martens (lead)will also represent the ECDAA at Regionals.
The Esterhazy boys will be joined by their girl counterparts at Regionals as the Esterhazy girls team of Sarah Moore (skip), Reese Newton (third), Kirsten Neville (second), Kailin Patrick (lead) and Kelsey Rapp (alternate) took the girls’ gold medal.
Joining Esterhazy will be the Sturgis team consisting of Allison Sopel (skip), Kelly Bazuik (third), Brooke Olson (second), Peyton Secundiak (lead) and Kaeleigh Folk (alternate).
Kamsack and Churchbridge will represent the ECDAA in the mixed competition.
Kamsack’s team of skip Jayden Chutskoff, third Kaylie Bowes, second Kyle Morgan, lead Cassidt Aker and alternates Makayla Woloshyn and Henry Thomas took gold while Churchbridge’s Brayden Fraser (skip), Jade Goebel (third), Marcus Gibler (second) and Lexi Morash (lead) earned the second spot for Regionals.
