The annual Dollars for Scholars golf tournament took place over the weekend at Deer Park.

For the last several years, the Deer Park Municipal Golf Course has been host to a Texas Scramble tournament set up to help raise money for student scholarships for students attending Parkland College.

The turnout Friday afternoon at Deer Park totalled 140 people who came out in support of a worthy cause. Players turned out from all over the Parkland area, says Parkland College director of advancement William Litchfield.

He said that last year the tournament raised over $16000 and this year the College is hoping to raise even more then that. He added one of the reasons the turnout is high is because the golfing conditions are really good.

"The course here has been great to us. It's a great partnership"

Litchfield said the tournament also draws golfers from the Regina and Saskatoon areas, noting that Parkland College does a lot of networking.

This year's fundraiser included a silent auction, dinner, door prizes and specialty prizes.

Litchfield said the specialty prizes included: the longest putt, straightest drive and another for closest to the pin.

He said the scholarships have to be applied for by students. The College is currently trying to raise money for scholarships for next year. Scholarships are tailored to specific programs.
