The Yorkton Crush Girls Softball Club will be hosting a major event for teams throughout the parkland Sunday.

Twenty-five teams are expected to gather at the York Lake Diamonds facility for what Crush spokesperson Clorice Kuzek termed 鈥渁 fun day鈥 of fastball.

The Yorkton Crush Nixon Electric Softball Day is anticipated to the largest girls fastball event, at least in recent memory, and quite possibly ever, with teams taking part in all five division from under-10 to under-19.

Kuzek said it is very gratifying for organizers that they are seeing teams coming to the city from Manitoba, teams are entered from Roblin, St. Rose and Dauphin, as well as the local area including Ochapowace, Melville, Esterhazy and Langenburg.

The day is not a formal tournament with teams battling for trophies, but instead is an opportunity for the teams to face some new competition, and that will help develop skills, said Kuzek, adding that is a main focus for area teams, just to get better at the game.

Having the York Lake diamonds has already helped the Crush develop, affording teams for practice time.

鈥淲e鈥檝e seen a lot of improvement. It鈥檚 just amazing to see,鈥 said Kuzek.

Of course that wouldn鈥檛 happen without parents and volunteers who have done a lot of extra work this year getting the four-field facility back into shape, said Kuzek, adding the efforts made 鈥渢o develop the program and improve the facility is really heartwarming.鈥

Action starts at 9 a.m. Sunday and runs through until 6 p.m.
