The Harlem Crowns were at the YRHS gym last Wednesday, topping off a bill of three games that included the YRHS junior and senior teams and the Yorkdale Central Public School teams.

The Harlem Crowns basketball team performed to a good sized crowd at the Yorkton Regional High School last Wednesday.

The Crowns are on a cross-country tour and the YRHS gym was on their list of stops.

Herb Scaife, emcee for the team said they arranged the date through telemarketing and contacts.

They performed two years ago in Yorkton at Sacred Heart High School.

The Crowns are made up of mostly California-based players and they do a variety of comic routines, but also manage to keep each show different. The Crowns are masters of the ad-lib, and they use audience members to encourage fan involvement.

Scaife said it's the best part "when we go get the kid" from the audience and let him shoot a couple.

"It's unexpected," adds Scaife.

He said it's the highlight of the show and probably wouldn't be the same without the fan involvement.

"It's enormous," adding "it's harder to do a show when people aren't smiling."

Crowd participation is very important."

The Crowns were heading off for shows in Pipestone and Moosomin after leaving the YRHS last week. They have been travelling around for six weeks, closes Scaife. "We'll definitely come back here."
