Winter cricket is in full swing and the Yorkton Cricket Association (YCA) has issued an open invitation to everyone who wants to try the sport or just learn more about it to come out.

"Last year with our first year in the Saskatchewan Cricket League (SCL), we generated a lot of interest in the city," said Thom Barker, YCA public relations manager. "Our Saturday afternoon indoor sessions are a great way for people to satisfy their curiosity, have some fun and get some exercise."

The full schedule is published at www.facebook.com/yorktonyorkerscricket.

Since the Yorkers' inaugural season ended in September, the team has been preparing for next season. Faisal Anwar, YCA president, is now a member of the Saskatchewan Cricket Association (SCA) board and has been working with the provincial organization on a strategic plan to promote the sport in Saskatchewan and increase funding opportunities.

The YCA also continues to work with the City of Yorkton on obtaining a cricket pitch for 2014 or 2015 so the team can host SCL home games and grow the game locally, particularly at the junior level.
