Charity road racers hit the streets again

Early on Sunday morning, select roads around Yorkton were closed to traffic as runners littered the streets to take part in the Yorkton Health Foundation鈥檚 11th annual charity road race. An impressive total of $18, 435 was raised this year.

Early on Sunday morning, select roads around Yorkton were closed to traffic as runners littered the streets to take part in the Yorkton Health Foundation鈥檚 11th annual charity road race. An impressive total of $18, 435 was raised this year.聽

There were a total of 281 registered runners in this year鈥檚 race. There were four different races offered: two-kilometers, five-kilometers, 10 kilometers and 21 kilometers.

鈥淭his was our best turn out ever,鈥 offered Ross Fisher, executive director of the Health Foundation in a press release, 鈥渁nd it continues our trend of increasing the number of runners and walkers every year.鈥

This year, the funds raised will assist in purchasing new equipment needed in the maternity ward that will assist all newborns. It will be of particular help to those born with complications.聽

The top three fundraisers were: Geoff Propp with $2,180, Tracy Newton with $1,100; and Tracey Zimmer with 1,040.聽

聽Over the summer months, runners prepare for the road race, and some take part in a learn to run clinic offered to teach runners proper techniques in breathing and running strategies.

The male winner of the two-kilometer race was Dylan Ismond with a time of 00:09:12. The top female in the two-kilometer was was Kendal Zimmer with a time of 00:10:24.聽

The top male of the five-kilometer race was Shawn McLean with a time of 00:16:15. The top female finisher of the five-kilometer was Justine Zarowny with a time of 00:20:23.聽

The top male of the 10-kilometer race was Nicholas Jirot with a time of 00:33:11. The top female of that race was Tracy Newton with a time of 00:50:16.聽

The top female finisher of the 21-kilometer race was Brooke Mentenko with a time of 1:26:08. The top male finisher was Brody Waddell with a time of 1:34:02.聽
