Twenty locals came out last Tuesday to take part in the Charity Road Race's Learn to Run at the Yorkton Regional High School.

Sylvia Gay of Yorkton has been participating in the Road Race for three years and said she loves doing it.

"Yes I do," she says. "I wanted to take part and am going to run the five-kilometre."

She said her plan is to take part in as many clinics as she can to build up her own stamina.

"You get stronger over three months."

Mother-daughter duo of Jacqueline and Allison Link "decided to do the training" says Jacqueline, adding that "it's good exercise to get together".

She and her daughter have been involved in the clinics since the start early in May and plan to take part in Saturday runs too.

They went out for 25 minutes last Tuesday and ran laps around the YRHS track.

"It takes practice," she suggests.

Allison plans to take part in the 3km run in August.

"It's something I always wanted to do," insists Lori Butchko, also of Yorkton, who also added "it's nice to see all ages" participating in the learning phases.

Butchko said the light jogging gets easier as she puts more time into it and is hoping to run the 5km in the summer.

Bernie Wlock was the learn-to-run leader said the turnout's have been getting good, the participants have been "so enthusiastic".

He added that when taking part in the physicality, it's important "to listen to your body".

The learn to run clinics have been part of the Health Foundation Charity Road Race.

They are designed for both the beginner runner and anyone looking to enter the race in August.

Participation in the clinics is available free to anyone registered for the race. Clinics run each Tuesday and Thursday and start at the Regional parking lot at 5:45 p.m. Each clinic goes for about 25 minutes. The Health Foundation Charity Road Race is scheduled for Aug. 21. Additional information is available by calling 786-0506.
