CCS athletes have successful start to new cross-country season

Cross-Country practice at Canora Composite School (CCS) started on September 6, and students have since participated in two cross-country meets.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 鈥淎 few students have joined our team this year that we didn't have last year which is fantastic,鈥 said Leona Kitchen, coach. 鈥淚t is very exciting when we practice and you see a whole crowd of kids are running together.鈥澛

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Running together keeps everyone motivated, improving and feeling part of a team, said Kitchen.聽聽聽

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A meet was held at the Deer Park Golf Course in Yorkton on September 18. The results for the CCS athletes are as follows:

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 In the beginner boys two-kilometre race. which involved 70 runners, Rhett Ludba finished 19th and Briel Beblow placed 31st.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The sneakers boys two-kilometre race included 59 runners. Taye Shukin placed second and improved his time by one minute from the previous race at Cherrydale. Ty Sleeva placed 32nd, Matthew Makowsky finished 33rd and Noah Prychak was 59th. Sleeva, Makowsky and Prychak all improved their times by two minutes from the previous race.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 There were 37 runners entered in the sneaker girls two-kilometre race. Sophia Tratch finished ninth and improved her time by one minute from the previous race. Jessee Kopelchuk placed 20th and improved her time by three minutes compared to the previous race.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The weepee boys three-kilometre race included 37 runners. Cole Marcinkowski placed third and Lucas Latham finished 23rd. Porter Wolkowski was unable to finish.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 In the weepee girls three-kilometre race, out of 27 runners, Meadow Ostafie finished third.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A total of 14 runners took part in the bantam boys three-kilometre race. Clay Sleeve came in first, followed by Hudson Bailey in third place. Jake Statchuk finished seventh and Brendon Landstad was ninth.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 In the midget boys three-kilometre race, which involved eight runners, Jacob Gulka placed eighth.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The first race of the season was at Cherrydale Golf Course east of Yorkton on September 14.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The results for CCS participants are as follows:聽

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The beginner boys three-kilometre race included a total of 73 runners. Rhett Ludba finished fourth and Briel Beblow came in 15th.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 There were 67 runners in the beginner girls two-kilometre run. Makayla Heshka placed 13th.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 There were 77 participants in the sneaker boys two-kilometre run. Taye Shukin finished second聽聽 and Matthew Makowsky placed 44th, just ahead of Ty Sleeve who was 45th. Noah Prychak was 74th.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 A total of 49 athletes competed in the sneaker girls two-kilometre run. Sofia Tratch came in eighth and Jessee Kopelchuk was 29th.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The weepee boys three-kilometre run involved 45 runners. Porter Wolkowski placed eighth, while Cole Marcinkowski came in 16th. Lucas Latham was unable to finish.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 CCS athletes accumulated four top 10 placings in the bantam boys three-kilometre run, which involved 16 runners. Clay Sleeva was first, followed by Hudson Bailey in second place.

Dawson Zuravloff finished fourth and Brendon Landstad placed eighth.聽聽聽聽

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 In the midget boys three-kilometre run, Jacob Gulka finished eighth out of 12 runners.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Jessie Biletski placed fifth out of five runners in the junior boys four-kilometre run.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Nathan Bucsis finished first out of five runners in the senior boys five-kilometre run, and in the senior girls four-kilometre run, Jill Gulka came in third out of five runners.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 Overall, the results for the CCS athletes were very encouraging, Kitchen said. They will focus on improving their times throughout the season.

聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽聽 The next cross-country meet for the CCS athletes will be at the Saltcoats Regional Park on September 29.
