With the 2014 WMBL season just weeks away, the Yorkton Cardinals continue to sign players that they hope will become pieces in a championship season.
Two new recruits to the Cardinals will be infielder Nick Gotta (Fullerton CC) and pitcher Easton Etter (Texas Wesleyan).
Gotta, a sophomore at Fullerton Community College in Fullerton, California, has seen action in 36 games this season in which he has hit .265 with one double, two triples and 13 RBI. His 26 walks on the season are tops on the team and third in the CCCBCA.
Defensively, the native of Carslbad, California, has committed 11 errors on the season but also has 90 assists as a part of the double play connection for the Fullerton CC Hornets.
The other recruit for the Cardinals, Etter, has done a little bit of everything as a Ram of Texas Wesleyan. Etter has seen time as a starter, starting seven games for the Rams in his freshman year. But that's not all Etter has done. The 6'1", 195-pound native of Burleson, Texas, has also made five appearances out of the bullpen for the Rams.
In total, Etter went 4-3 in his freshman year with an ERA of 5.50. Etter's biggest problem is control. The right handed pitcher walked 28 batters this season for the Rams while striking out just 16. He's also thrown 12 wild pitches and plunked 14 opposing batters in his 12 games, averaging more than one hit batter per game.
Where Etter excels, however, is fielding. Etter is one of the top fielding pitchers in his conference and has a perfect fielding percentage due to making zero errors all season long.
Look for Etter to provide bullpen depth for the Cards in the 2014 season as, quite possibly the youngest member of the Cardinals pitching staff.
Welcome to the Yorkton Cardinals, Gotta and Etter!
