The Canora Golf and Country Club held its annual Cheap Suit Golf Classic on September 10.

The tournament is a friendly spoof of the well-known Masters event held in the United States. But instead of the iconic green jacket awarded at the Masters, Canora winners are presented with a cheap suit jacket, said Darryl Rock of the Canora Golf Club.

Unless otherwise noted, this year’s winners are all from Canora.

The men’s competition was won by Dustin Was of Benito Man. with a nine-hole score of 37. Kelly MacTavish place second with 41, and Terry Wilson finished third with a score of 43.

Deb O’Dell captured first place in the women’s competition by shooting 47. Amanda Popoff finished second with 51 and Jessica Kwas was third at 54.

Ethan Waselenko of Pelly was the only golfer in the junior category and won first place with a score of 60.

Darryl Stevenson won the closest-to-the-pin competition with 81 inches.

Deb O’Dell won the women’s long drive competition, and Dustin Sas captured the men’s long drive competition.

Steve Borys won the oldest golfer award.

In keeping with the spirit of the event, all participants are encouraged to wear a cheap suit or a cheap sweater, said Rock.

The award for best cheap suit at this year’s competition went to Terry Wilson.
